The September 2004, monthly meeting was action-packed
and controversial. All of the City Council candidates, as well
as other local and state political offices, had been invited to
speak. Council candidates Herb Katz, Michael Feinstein, Matt Dinolfo,
Ken Genser, and Jonathan Mann showed up, discussed issues and
answered questions directed to them by ACTION members. Heather
Peters, running for the 41st Assembly District and Tonja McCoy,
a candidate for Board of Trustees for S.M. College, also spoke.
The meeting was very well received and our members were very respectful
to all candidates even though we are aware how tenant-biased and
so disrespectful of private property owner rights some ot them
are.
Prior to the Candidate portion of the meeting, William Patterson.
Financial Consultant and President of GPG, LLC. presented our
members with a senior settlement insurance program by which he
said qualified participants can reap large monetary rewards.
The October meeting featured Polly Benson Brown, who had done
a tremendous amount of research on the pros and cons of all the
November ballot propositions. Our members gained much valuable
information aiding them in making intelligent choices.
City Council Candidates Kathryn Morea and Bobbie Shriver did
excellent presentations and answered innumerable questions from
our astute and inquisitive members.
Jim Jacobsons presentation of the Janice Nishidas
Regulation 3304 was, as usual, amusing and informative. He will
write more about that in next months Rent Board Stories.
Plan on attending the next meeting, and bring a friend.
