PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE, By Gordon P. Gitlen, Action President

As this monthly magazine is written, we are still reading articles and revisiting the life and passing of President Ronald Reagan. The entire world has not seen a burial procession of this magnitude since the passing of President John F. Kennedy. From his start as a sportscaster to movie star to President of the Screen Actors’ Guild to Governor of the State of California to President of the United States, all must agree that President Ronald Reagan was truly a gifted individual. It has been said that he brought down the Berlin Wall without a shot being fired. Our conversation at the June meeting focused on some of the highlights of President Reagan’s career. We also heard from Charles Phipps, of Orkin Pest Control, who answered questions from the membership. Again, thank you Mr. Phipps for an excellent presentation that increased the knowledge of owners in the management of their properties. Did you know that the approved general adjustment is only 1.3% with a maximum of $20? Learn more about it at the next meeting.

Also we want to express again, our thanks to Rosario Perry for a second great legal victory in ACTION vs. Santa Monica Rent Control Board wherein certain portions of the Tenant Harassment Law were struck down by the Court of Appeal. There will be further details in this WAM Magazine and at the next meeting.

ACTION is also seeking your help as we would like to have more advertisers for the WAM Magazine. Perhaps you know of somebody who would like to advertise or perhaps you know of somebody that would like the job of soliciting advertising for WAM. If so, please call the office.

If you are interested in other ways in which you can help ACTION (since ACTION is of help to you), we are always looking for ideas for fundraisers, ideas for guest speakers, and other ideas wherein ACTION can represent the interests of its membership. Would you like to be a Board of Directors candidate?

The next owner education meeting will be July 12, 2004. Our guest speaker is Santa Monica Deputy Police Chief, Phil Sanchez and we encourage you to bring a fellow apartment owner as well. See you then. WAM-- End of Article
